Asha Health

Member of Technical Staff

New York, NY · $185,000-$250,000 · Full-time

About the company

Asha Health is building an AI operating system for outpatient care, a bet on what comes after the current wave of single-purpose healthcare agents. It is backed by Y Combinator, General Catalyst, 186 Ventures, Reach Capital, and others, in an oversubscribed seed. The team includes AI product leaders from Google, engineering talent from Brex, and physician executives from major health systems.

Most AI healthcare companies build a point agent, such as prior authorization, and then integrate it into dozens of legacy electronic health records. Asha is building the system those tools eventually converge on: its own AI-native electronic health record and operating system, the software and the hardware to run a clinic on autopilot. In medical verticals where providers do not switch electronic health records for 20 to 25 years, they are switching onto Asha. Seed stage, about 1 to 10 people, founded in 2025, in New York.

About the role

Asha Health is hiring members of technical staff. They want two genuinely strong backend engineers who also have product sense and act as their own product manager, designer, and user researcher. As models evolve, the people who win are strong engineers who can pick up product and UX taste. The miss they see in interviews is an engineer who has coded their whole life and then puts something on a screen a user would never touch. They do not need a front-end specialist. They need a strong backend engineer with real product taste. You decide what to build, why, and how, rather than taking tickets from a product manager.

You build across the AI-native electronic health record and operating system, with backend as the core. You talk to customers, decide what to build, and own the product surface. You take down technical debt and the onboarding burden so the sales motion does not have to pause. You research, experiment, and ship applied AI at startup speed. You work daily with the CEO, the CTO, and the CMO.

Bar: about 2 to 7 years. Professional experience matters more than school. A top bachelor's in computer science, electrical engineering and computer science, or a related field is the school signal they weight. The schools they name most often are Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Waterloo, and Georgia Tech, then Washington, Illinois, Michigan, and Princeton. You have very strong backend engineering, ideally in a zero-to-one or one-to-ten environment. You can understand users, make product decisions, and ship without a product manager defining every step. Real product and UX taste is the scarce trait. About a year of product management on top of engineering is a bonus. You build AI products with AI tools daily, and you learn extremely fast. The motivation they want is someone forgoing a higher market offer to join a seed for the work. Venture-backed startup experience at any stage is the preferred company signal. Exceptional experience at a company on the level of Meta or Google can pass when the motivation is obvious. A year or two at a large company, with no sign of why you want a seed, is a caution.

A strong backend engineer with product taste, a personal project you built for fun, something you took to real revenue, or zero-to-one backend ownership at a venture-backed startup are green flags. A strong coder with weak product sense, a front-end-only background, someone who needs a product manager to define every step, or someone optimizing for predictability is a miss.

In office five days a week in Manhattan. Visa sponsorship is limited. Equity is about 0.5% to 1.25%. Insurance. Posted work intensity is 9-9-6. The process is a screen of about 30 minutes with the CEO, three technical conversations, a product interview, then a final tailored to whatever signal is still missing: a domain-research exercise, a product exercise, or a paid in-person work trial of about two days.
