Songscription

Growth Engineer

San Francisco, CA · $120,000-$200,000 · Full-time

About the company

Songscription is a music-learning AI lab that raised a $5M seed led by Reach Capital (with Emerge Capital, 10x Founders, Dent Capital, and angel Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal of Guns N' Roses). It came out of Stanford's StartX, founded by Andrew Carlins (CEO, Stanford MBA), Alex Alvarado-Barahona (CTO), Katie Baker, and Tim Beyer, whose music-AI research cracked the audio-to-MIDI problem the company is built on. The traction is the real headline: 150,000+ users across 150 countries at 60% month-over-month growth, all organic with zero marketing spend.

Songscription is the "Shazam for sheet music", upload any audio or YouTube link and get back accurate sheet music, MIDI, MusicXML, Guitar Pro tabs, or an interactive piano roll in minutes, across nine instruments. Its second product, Anything Piano, is an iOS app that lets anyone upload a song and learn it through a piano roll with real-time feedback. Under the hood is proprietary transcription AI solving a problem that stumped music-information-retrieval research for decades.

The team is small, fast, and based in San Francisco. Seed stage, about 1 to 10 people, founded in 2024.

About the role

Songscription is hiring a Growth Engineer to own the technical side of growth: PLG mechanics, SEO and AEO, conversion tooling, lifecycle automation, and analytics. This is an engineer seat, not ads or content. The bet is that revenue can move 20 to 50% with no product or AI changes, purely through structured A/B testing.

The loop is the job. Given a metric (churn, for example), figure out why: read reports, hop on user calls, use the product. Pick the intervention (product, pricing, packaging, or UX), ship it, A/B test, measure, iterate. Success at six months is builds and changes that add about 20%+ more month-over-month growth. UI/UX implementation is the scarce skill. Statistics and dashboards are the easy part. You also build analytics for existing UGC and paid ads (measure, not optimize ads), and you may get pulled into product-leaning work like mini-games as top of funnel and programmatic SEO (a page per song or comparison). Web first, then the more game-like mobile app over time.

You own the technical growth work across acquisition, activation, retention, monetization, and referral. Define success metrics before you ship. Product-led growth: sharing, referral and UGC, in-product conversion, activation experiments. Lifecycle: email on activation, milestones, and churn signals. Technical and programmatic SEO/AEO.

Bar: strong coding across frontend, backend, and analytics. You actually build and ship, not plot and vibe-code. Full-stack, especially front-end and UI/UX-heavy product changes (not a designer). Strong on A/B tests, funnels, statistics, and dashboards. AI-assisted, but you own the output. Handed a metric and data, you optimize it end to end. Gaming growth experience and a real connection to music are pluses. Onsite in San Francisco. Visa sponsorship is available. Medical, dental, vision, life, PTO, in-office gym, and meals.
